How can multi-benefit stormwater parks help our LA communities? Nature for All team members toured two multi-benefit stormwater parks recently finished in South LA, alongside other community organizers and leaders. The Council for Watershed Health Coordinators and LA County Stormwater Quality Project Planners led the tours at Magic Johnson Park and Roosevelt Park, where we learned how these existing parks were redesigned to add nature- based solutions such as wetlands and bioswales to clean stormwater; how underground chambers and pipes were installed to catch the surrounding area’s valuable runoff water; and how new amenities, including a garden with low-water, California-friendly plants, were designed based on input from our communities. We continue to advocate for more water projects around the county that bring environmental and community benefits to our park-poor neighborhoods.
