President Obama designated the San Gabriel Mountains a national monument on October 10, 2014. We’ve worked for more than a decade to gain protections for this region and continue to celebrate that victory. Each year on the anniversary, we are reminded of how far we have come and are thankful to all those who have helped us along the way (see our list of supporters), from the coalition members and elected officials you see in these photos, to the countless volunteers who support our programs and work.

Still, our work continues! We are still pushing for more support of the Protecting America’s Wilderness and Public Lands Act (championed by Sen. Alex Padilla, photo at right). The bill would ensure our public lands and threatened natural resources remain protected, vibrant and accessible to all. It’s already passed the House and is under consideration by the Senate. We hope to hear good news about its passage soon. In the meantime, we hope to see you enjoying nature time in the San Gabriel Mountains national monument.
