The Sierra Club Forest Committee is presenting a virtual event that presents the story of our new vision of our magnificent backyard mountain range, the San Gabriels.

The keynote speaker will be Belinda Faustinos, our recently retired Executive Director, who will talk about plans to protect more wilderness, complete the National Monument started by President Obama in 2014, and establish a new, 50,000-acre National Recreation Area (NRA) south of the mountain range along the San Gabriel River. The NRA will enhance recreational opportunities for park poor San Gabriel Valley residents and protect a major wildlife corridor.

Also scheduled to speak is one of our environmental champions, Rep. Judy Chu, who will share a progress report on her legislation — the Foothills, Mountains and Rivers Act — which is part of a PUBLIC Lands Act package of public lands bills moving through the Senate with help from Senator Alex Padilla. The event will have the Forest Committee’s Juana Torres as master of ceremonies, and Rob Morales of the Sierra Club and the Nature for All Coalition Chair, and Sierra Club’s Angeles Chapter Senior Director Morgan Goodwin.
